Having a Daylight solar system does not disconnect your home from the electrical grid.
Your home remains connected to your utility, allowing electricity to move between your home and the grid depending on how much electricity your system is producing and how much your home is consuming.
That means you may receive both:
A Daylight bill based on the terms of your Daylight Energy Subscription PPA; and
A utility bill for applicable utility charges and electricity supplied by the grid.
How does net metering work?
At times, your solar system may produce more electricity than your home is consuming.
At other times—such as overnight or during periods of high electricity usage—your home may need additional electricity from the grid.
Under the applicable utility rules, excess solar electricity exported to the grid may generate credits that can offset eligible electricity drawn from the grid.
The exact crediting and net-metering rules vary by state and utility.
Will my utility bill disappear?
Not necessarily.
Your utility may continue to assess fixed charges, taxes, fees, minimum charges, or charges associated with electricity you consume from the grid.
Your Daylight system, battery, home, and utility connection work together. Having two bills does not by itself mean your Daylight system is underperforming.
